whisper machine
this is another project I am doing while at PICA. It has developed as a result of the horrible acoustics in my studio: the echoing walls make it impossible to hear what anyone says to me. I realized that it would be impossible to give an artist's talk in these conditions, so decided to build a "whisper machine" as a form of public address.
Here are a couple of photos of it in its current, partially assembled, state.

what am I working on...
well, I'm up to a few different things, but I'm going to post images from a project I began a couple of weeks ago as part of my PICA residency.
I have been redistributing PICA's publicity material. So far, this has meant a few things.
1) I have acquired the distribution list for the institution's publicity material
2) I re-collect the material and move it to less 'appropriate' locations
3) I have acquired PICA's old and out of date publicity material
4) I distribute this outdated material to various galleries around WA
I do not necessarily have nor do I necessarily not have the gallery's consent or awareness that I am doing this.
some photos:
spatial displacements:

temporal (historical) displacements:

I know that these photos don't really "show" very much, but this is the type of work that initiates a perplexing encounter, ie it doesn't document very well.
